According to the statement released by the Hon Minister of Finance Kemi Adeoshu, as directed by President Muhammad Buhari, all Federal pensioners under the Contributory Pension Scheme who have retired and has not been paid, dating to as far back as 2014, 2015 and 2016 are to be paid their pension arrears immediately, through the release of a total sum of N41.5 billion to the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) for immediate payment to affected retirees.
"We've also released the sum of N12.5 billion to cover outstanding pensions payments for January, February and March 2017, bringing the total payment to N54bn" the honorable as quoted.
She went further to say that despite conflicting demands for available resources in the Country, they were acting on the President's administration effort and commitment of attending to the plight of workers and pensioners. "These payments will bring relief to thousands of our elders who have served, and deserve to be paid their entitlements promptly and fully"
This is a rear move by any administration so far, and it will go a long way at cushioning the existing economic hardships in the country.
The plan also include continues monthly allocations to National Pension Commission (PENCOM) alongside monthly salaries to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to forestall further accumulation.
